The Art & Sound Of Dustforce -- An Interview With Terrence Lee

Four developers. Four different cities. One game.

It’s rare I get to make contact with artists making work that motivates me. It’s even more difficult when it’s a game developer who has just released a game weeks ago. A man from my home state of Ohio, Terrence Lee spared some time to answer questions about his team’s new game, Dustforce. In my continued studies of how we approach games, I think it’s important to pay special attention to how smaller teams make the jump from idea experimentation to full-fledged execution. Why? The ideas of how we play and enjoy games, should be just as important as the idea of making them.

Thoughts On My Colony Wars Article Reception

These guys are cool, you should check them out. Tell them I sent ya.

[Update: 10-3-11 11:34pm. Mike Anthony of Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops and Lead Programmer of Colony Wars & Colony Wars: Vengeance is now up on Gamasutra. This is probably the last of what I'll write about one of my favorite franchises. Enjoy]

The Brog's 2 Year Anniversary!

Trust Me, I'm Just As Surprised As You Are.

It all started with an image of Jeff Goldblum in short-shorts. We’ve been through a lot haven’t we? Internet memes. Epic gaming rants and the institution that is the nonsensical image at the end of my movie and game reviews.

This is the part where I issue some form of “state of the brog” address. There are plans, but for the handful of you who actually read this site, expect more of the same. Which, I guess, is more of anything I can get my mind around. There won’t be some major site overhaul or “Brog 2.0 beta” experience. I do like making banners with me in them, so expect more of those [narcissism]. For the eight of you who have stuck with The Brog this long ... I apologize. No one should willingly subject themselves to such poor grammar on a regular basis. I salute you.

Self-Indulgence: 1up's Mike Cruz Interviewed Me And Its Awesome

Some months ago Mike Cruz asked me to answer some questions and submit a couple photos of myself [probably so he can photoshop my head on that of a Griffin's...standard], but I completely forgot about the interview because it took place late last year. To my surprise he included me with some of the best and bright[er] minds over on 1up. It was fun, any time I can reference Hamburger Helper in an interview.

P.S. Gamemaster is the only reason 1up exists.

Artist Corner: Greg Hollimon Interview

In case you are wondering who the immutable Greg Hollimon is, you may remember him from a great show on Comedy Central circa late 90's early 2000's, called Strangers With Candy.  An excellent show, and an odd show which many believed to be short-lived. Greg Hollimon played Principal Blackman, a quick witted and quick tempered black man...who just happened to be a principal.  Thanks to the power of Facebook and a stalker's determination, I decided to track down Hollimon and proceed to catch lightening in a bottle...I tried to interview him.

The interview runs long, hey it's my first time...I was excited.  Unfortunately, I scared off Mr. Hollimon who clearly had to fly off and tend to the needs of the many. "Probably the jazziest choice", but you will notice that Hollimon has led quite the interesting life. From his 'first time' to who he hated most on Strangers with Candy, Hollimon spills the bean. Now if only I could have paid the man.

*I would like to thank Greg Hollimon.  He really is an inpiration...that and I totally did not think he would do this little interview!

Enjoy
