A Game So Realistic You'll Swear You're Wearing Their Sweat. Yuck.
Barring the mega-Satanic intro, I am pretty excited to see what could come of the Dream organization. Its cool to see these Japanese promoters stick with promoting their fighters in a more respectible manner as oppose to the 'meat-neckery' the average American is use to seeing [as far as promotions go]. I am a little sad to see the ring go. I don't know why, but it was something so identifiable about Pride and now Dream and all major mixed martial arts events in Japan.
Will this be the last time we see Kimbo...winning?
Sad news? Well...it isn't the greatest news to here today. Dave Meltzer of Yahoo! Sports reported today of the news of mixed-martial arts organization EliteXC is unfortunately [or fortunately] closing its doors. From bad business deals with shareholders and fellow MMA company contributors to marketing an unprofessional fighter to fight 'over-the-hill' vets or 'unseasoned upstarts' looks to be what what did the more crassy than classy noob organization.
After the jump..."What about women's MMA?"
Something I've wanted to NOT happen for a while now. I was willing to believe the hype. I so wanted the EliteXC to succeed, but to use a person [who was also using this organization for personal gains as well] as the 'marquee' fighter of their organization seems massively shady. Its something written on the walls in small print, but with neon lettering. Kimbo Slice is a brawler, so was Tank Abbot and to a certain extent Chuck Liddell. The difference between Kimbo and those other legends, was that Kimbo was already dubbed a legend before being truly tested as one in the sport of MMA. Tank and Chuck worked up the ranks of the MMA [in grand fashion] and have recovered from losses and have won the respect of their peers and in some cases their championship status.

Me and my lady have been trying to find more footage and stories surrounding the very elusive and energy packed...Krazy Horse. This post is a dedication to his life in...as well as outside of the ring. The last I'd heard of Charles "Krazy Horse" Bennett"...it was at 2005, Pride was throwing an event called "Shockwave 2005". Backstage he was supposedly being picked on by Chute Boxe academy [headed by Wanderlei Silva]. Words were exchanged and a fight ensued. Krazy Horse was apparently choked out...and when he came too the first person he saw...he alledgedly knocked out. The person in question was Wanderlei Silva himself...
Whether it is true or not is not the case...this post is dedicated to the memories a still breathing man has already given us all.
After the jump...video: A Dedication Clip, The Night In Question @ Shockwave, And A Series Of Krazy Horse Mug Shots!
Wow...that's a lot of old dudes.
As one who is a huge fan and ex-practicioner of what I guess would be called mixed-martial arts now, I still morn the loss of Japan's biggest fighting spectacle; that is Pride FC. Pride was purchased by Zuffa LLC. last year in an attempt to 'consolidate' a then burgeoning sub-culture. Zuffa is most known for it's american mixed martial arts staple UFC, which is [in this broggers opinion] inferior as far as a company goes in regards to the treatment of their fighters.
For the past couple months I've been watching old footage of Pride fights and thinking about 'what could have been' had Pride been able to capitalize in the same matter as the UFC company. You can click this link for the wiki article on the history of Pride, it is very thorough. Pride has had it's far share of blemishes as well, but the biggest would be its parent company DSE [Dream Stage Entertainment] and its possible dealings with the yakuza.
This isn't a post about the bad though...this is a post about the good and i think possibly great! Feburary marked the start of Dream. One of the founding members and a good majority of the background staff and backers of Pride FC decided to start all over again with Dream. Rekindling the rules and showmanship of what we got to know from Pride.

We all know that sometime down the line Gina Carano and this young lady are gonna meet. I have to say...i'm quite frightened and I may have just peed a little.
[and kudos to women's MMA for making a lot of great moves in the past couple years]
