Exclusive! Miyamoto Introduces Wii Eat. Lifelike Chocolates Are The Game's Peripheral
Old news, I am a huge Colony Wars and Psygnosis fanboy. It was the Brog's best kept secret that I was hoping to get an interview with one of the designers of the old Colony Wars/Wipeout series. Thanks to a little help from Tim Wright [DJ ColdStorage and legendary composer for the aforementioned game franchises] I was able to track down some key individuals from the now fragmented Psygnosis team. It is incredibly unfortunate timing that as of this week, most of them have recently lost their jobs. Those who still remain at Studio Liverpool have lost a team that has had one of the longest running racing franchises in gaming.
It's really easy to say M-Rated games [as a whole] do not fair well on this gaming generation's top selling console, the Nintendo Wii. The Wii has been the proverbial kryptonite for a lot of developers and publishers who refused to put an Italian plumber in their game. How long can devs put up with the 'low risk, high reward' design before the already fully stocked game shelves boot them to the bargain bin? In the history of sales for the Wii, Sega has produced seven titles in the top 100. Five of said titles feature a very tired Sonic the Hedgehog. The odd two who managed to rock the Wii charts -- Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz and the House of the Dead 2 and 3 Return [which were repackaged remakes with new Wii controls].
Before you skewer me with your e-pitchforks, I do acknowledge that games are more than just sales numbers. This is not a sales rap. I am not here to develop marketing strategies for Sega on why titles like Madworld and The Conduit should perform better. I want to talk about why these games don't perform sales-wise as well as garner critical acclaim. I want to talk about what can make mature rated games on Nintendo consoles [yes I am including you DS] welcomed for mature adults as well as the children they may be the parents of.
You see that star power? Sony fanboys, please come to my aid. Like so many summoned beasts in a Playstation exclusive Final Fantasy contract, I need to know what parry the console has to this Microsoft thrust. I guess we will have to rely on rumors that both installations of Mass Effect are being begrudgingly coded for a future release on the PS3. For every Resistance they have a Halo, for every Killzone they have a Gears Of War and now...they have a Mass Effect, what's the counterpunch? MAG? Are you serious?
It should be noted that this is a joke used to deliberately rile fans of both consoles up. Mass Effect is awesome and so are the games for the PS3, which I love as far as a man can love an inanimate object.
How many times must I watch something of the Mega64 lot and think, "Damn, why didn't I come up with that?" Yeah, I'm a hater. They do good things and there are talented people in the IGN halls, so this shouldn't be seen as a complete slight to the company. Let's be honest though, who on IGN is funnier than these guys though?
After the Jump, "Why Would You Do That To A PSP Go?"
Wow, there sure is a lot of talking in this game, huh? So much so, that a good chunk of the beginning of the trailer is talking. Sure its in Japanese, but is there ever a logical reason for people to ride airships on the fourth of July? Of course, for love! I am looking forward to FFXIII [otherwise it wouldn't be making it on to the brog in the first place], but that feeling of being 'super-pumped' for a RPG has kind of waned with me.
"But look at the graphics!"-Me ten years ago, which is probably when they initially began working on this hilari-epic. I got high hopes, just like I got high hopes for Gran Turismo 5, eventhough four or five other games in its genre have came out since its last iteration. [shrugs Kanye-style, then drops the mic]

This event was something no thread or internet streaming video could truly capture. Even I could not capture the entire run of every tournament, but when I was at Seasons Beatings IV; I took in as much information as possible. There were games, that up until now, I had not seen high-level play and when I did catch the classic Sanford Kelly versus Justin Wong matches; these matches went beyond my expectations. This was a wake up call. A huge wake up call to the fighting community as a whole. Street Fighter IV has indeed arrived and is a game with comparable depth to it's predecessors. There was/is resistance when talking to veteran players about Street Fighter IV [even I was and still am a naysayer], but after this tourney and this year's EVO; Street Fighter has earned its spot as one of the premiere, high-level tournament fighting games.
While I was there I took some photos, not my best day, but I tried to capture the essence.
