Orphan: Ridiculous Plot, Pleasant Surprise

Orphan will not make sense. It will have moments in the plot that bend logic well beyond a breaking point. However, given the somewhat strong cast and out-of-nowhere twist, you may find yourself making an exception for 'yet another horror movie starring a creepy looking child'.

The Half-Blood Prince Review From A Non-Plussed Fan.

The sixth installment in the Harry Potter film franchise, you would assume the character development would be fleshed out and interesting to the average movie goer. Alas, Mr. Potter has suprised me again. Harry Potter is cute, pretty and has magical moments, unfortunately none of those moments equate to this movie being nothing short of a Goosebumps novel, scratch that, I actually like Goosebumps novels.  This movie is not dark, it is actually the fluffiest of the Harry Potter movies I have seen, granted I have seen the first, half of the second and the fifth prior to this two hour and 30 minute waste of time.

Transformers: America's Movie

If You Look Close Enough, You Can Still The Lip Gloss It is quite clear Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen is America's movie. The movie is huge [in many respects], tons of things happen with very little reasonable explaination; even under the guise that this is 'a movie about robots'. More importantly, the viewer must accept the fact that the this Transformers movie will in some way be entertaining and tie-in [plot wise] to the previous effort. With standards low, and a large cry from the general public saying, "Just turn your brain off and enjoy". How is it possible that a movie so incredibly racist, chauvinistic and rife with some of the worst [I shutter to say] acting, lack the one element most people come to see in a Transformer movie? Entertainment.

Brüno: Review

So This Isn't Borat 2?

If you liked Borat you will 'probably' like Brüno. The odd focus of fashion at the start of the movie will keep Ali G fans satisfied, but when you factor in the scripted and non-scripted events throughout Brüno; you see the set-ups as weaker moments in the movie. Of course there are plenty of shocking imagery in the feature. However, when seeing the 8th or 9th penis on-screen, you want more impromptu 'Candid Camera' moments and less Sacha Baron Cohen slapstick scripted skits. Much like the character Sacha Baren Cohen portrays, Brüno as a movie makes up for in its commentary what it lacks in personality.

Tyson: Why Is This Movie Only In 8 Theaters?

Thugnificient

If you are reading this now, then there is a good chance that the documentary known as "Tyson" is more than likely no longer playing in your neighboring theater. Turns out putting an independant movie in theaters that aren't located in Los Angeles or New York, cost a chunk of change.  Tyson, the person, is depicted as an adult who has come to terms with his life.  A life filled with youthful mistakes and displacement.  This harsh upbringing then leads to his adult life which is filled with scandals and overall misfortune.  "Tyson" is great.  It is off putting, harsh at times and small bits are just flat out weird. Here is hoping an audience out there...somewhere in Brogville, will find the DVD/Blu-Ray and enjoy this documentary.  It really is something else.

Drag Me To Hell. Yes, Please, and Thank You

There are very few images you will remember this summer...this is one of themSam Raimi, I am so sorry. I was a naysayer, I had a carton of tomatoes ready to through from the peanut gallery.  Drag Me To Hell proves that comedy and horror don't have to be an accident of bad filmaking.  Director Sam Raimi has tapped into his Evil Dead vein once again to deliver a work that nods to his previous efforts and simultaneously reinvigorating all facets of the horror genre. Go see it, immediately, it does not have robots or spaceships in it, but it has an epic old lady beat down that must be seen on the big screen.

I Love You Man...Well...Kinda

A Lesson In How To Uncomfortably Say Goodbye

I figured during these summer blockbusters, with robots falling out of the sky and man travelling back in time and exploding space demons with lasers, some may want to be in a theater that is not stuffed to the gills with people craving to be in-the-know with the most recent movie of the week.  Well, there is another movie of the week out there for you if you are willing to open your mind to the intricacies of 'same-sex hetero-dating'.

The Star Trek Is Just A Good Movie

The Chekov Comparison Is HilariousSo let me get this straight, in this parallel universe, Kirk never met his father and Spock's mom is fairly hot? Scotty has his own 'Jar-Jar', but an actually funny Jar-Jar?  And Eric Bana has tatooes on his face as a result of waring in space for 25 years? Well Mr. J. J. Abrams, you certainly have your work cut out for you in the eyes of this viewer.  As an aside, this is coming from a viewer who was not 'that big' into the original Star Trek series [grandparents made me watch every episode], but may have seen 80...err...maybe 90 percent of the movies.  Much like the rest of my generation, I was a bigger fan of well...The Next Generation.  What is truly unfortunate about this Star Trek is that for every 9 things it gets right, there is usually a glaring 'one-thing' lurking around the corner of its very convoluted science fiction plot. This makes this movie a great Star Trek movie, but only a good movie as a whole.

Sunshine Cleaning: A Good Movie

After checking this weekend's box office, it is safe to say that three movies are complete financial bombs: Adventureland, Observe & Report and the cream of the crop; Sunshine Cleaning. What do these movies have in common? All three films, at a glance, appear incredibly similar to previous hits. Adventureland and Observe & Report are to Superbad and Paul Blart where Sunshine Cleaning is to Little Miss Sunshine. However, Sunshine Cleaning has managed to melt my blackened heart when it comes to 'dark comedies' or 'light dramas'. There are a couple illogical moments that will have you scratching your head, but the performances from each cast member is what makes this movie worth the traveling to the theater.

Fast & Furious: Now With 10% More Lame

What you need to know from the get-go with "Fast & Furious" or "The Fast and the Furious 4", is that this is not the campy, street racing movie you may have been hoping for from the original movie. This 'street racing' movie has only one race, that just happens to be on the street! How do you make a movie who's bread-and-butter for its core audience is essentially transformed into off-road racing in Mexico? The stunts, when they are not overly CGI-ed are executed well. Unfortunately, the movie is rife with CGI show pieces and cultural stereotypes, which will take the viewer out of any modicum of entertainment you could garner from an extended Reggaeton music video.
