Commercial Break: Sometimes It's Hard Defending Gamers

A couple days ago I had a conversation with one of my [non-video game] lady pals about a current-slash-ex-dude she was seeing. She said she see couldn't see herself with someone who played games as much as she 'thought' he did. I'm using games broadly, but she meant video games.

As a clarifier, the young man apparently audio recorded his progress. This seemed to be enough for said young lady to come to a conclusion that, "uh uh!" This ain't what she wanted from a romantic interest.

Games Of 2010 Owe Thanks To Modern Warfare 2

Because Modern Warfare 2's highly advertised release in 2009, game publishers pushed several titles to be released in 2010. Could this single act be responsible for changing how & when we consume games?

If ex-Infinity Ward employees troubled relationship with Activision bore any positive fruits, it would be the late 2009 gaming industry shake-up of Modern Warfare 2’s release. Regardless of how one feels about the quality of the product, Modern Warfare 2 may have had the largest impact on 2010’s gaming release schedule than was initially anticipated. Whether this actually helped or hurt the industry financially is a task I’ll leave to the number crunchers who produce the monthly NPDs. What I have noticed [and I’m sure you’ll correct me if I’m wrong] is that as a result of Modern Warfare 2s release, this essentially front-loaded this year with game releases. In a way, because of one major game release, the industry was forced to realize how important the rest of the year is in regards to the gaming culture. Though this rising tide doesn’t lift all boats, could this be the start of larger game titles being spread evenly throughout a given year?

BlizzCon 08 : Yet Another Cosplay Explosion

One Of Us, One Of Us...one of us...one of us....

Who is responsible for this? What has happen to a society of so many technological advancements and philosphers only to get a sub-culture who spends more time and effort on playing an expensive game of dress up at conventions [be it cosplay, sci-fi and gaming]. I'll tell you what you get, you get some of the best costumes of people who stay in the basements of their collective mom/husband/wives/best friends' house.

Diablo III - Wizard trailer

Coming from someone who isn't in to 'the whole Diablo' thing.  This trailer is kind of the new crack for a PC gamer.  I wasn't really interested after Blizzard 'cloak & daggerly' announced the game, but consider my interest officially peaked.

Double props to Joystiq & Kevin Kelly for posting this.
