Video: Kinect's Joy Ride Fail

By now this video clip has circulated your favorite popular blogging sites and has garnered almost a half a million views as of me posting this entry. I want you to think about a couple things going on in this video. Kinect has been picked [in an odd sort of manner] for being this holiday season's high-tech Furby or Tickle Me Elmo toy. Much like political campaign strategies, advertising dollars control the masses. There were talks of having this Microsoft branded device in your living room being able to give you some form of a Minority Report experience. I'm guessing the video below will suffice as a lofty pipe dream being made into a kind of reality.

Video: The Only Two Games I'm Looking Forward To

Thanks to Gamefly and a little luck with friends of this site, I've been able to play a handful of games I've been looking forward too this year. Go ahead, click the games tab on the left of the site and peruse my let downs and my surprises.

However, I typically like to keep games I want to be surprised by, out of my internet gaze until their release. The game above, Castlevania: Lord Of Shadows and the game after the jump, Enslaved are two games I've been interested in for two very different reasons.

Castlevania: LofS I've been interested in simply because I'm not a Castlevania fan [the only Castlevania game I liked was Symphony of the Night and I own most of the console released games]. The game looks powerfully Japanese [and how could it not? Its a Kojima joint] with the haircuts and gothic clothing, not to mention the overly expository 'talky' scenes, but it all works and looks appealing. Weird, considering, usually these are all things that turn me off and a contributing reason why I don't watch game trailers.

Enslaved is a game I've been keeping an eye on since Edge's interview of Ninja Theory earlier this year. That and I've recently caught myself up on the book the game is based on [Journey to the West]. Plus, I'm a fan of underdog games. Castlevania and Enslaved games aint gonna get the push a Gran Turismo 5 or Halo: Reach is going to get in the holiday season so, I figured a little post like this may bend the ear of a reader or two.

I'm going into these games knowing that they didn't have the money that a God of War or Devil May Cry may fetch. So seeing a couple reviews on 1up has me thinking that barring some minor annoyances, my want of these games could be justified.

After the jump, the Enslaved trailer

Duke Nukem Forever: Reverse Excitement

I don’t normally write about the current events in gaming and when you’re done reading this you’ll probably understand why. The trials and tribulations of [at the time] 3D Realms’ Duke Nukem: Forever has stood as the secret handshake amongst most hardcore gamers and game journalists in-the-know. If you knew about the ill-fated 3D Realms 13-year development struggles of one game, then you were inducted into some sort of nerd ring where complaining about screen-tearing and boob physics are the norm. So, in short, I don’t get it.

Is This Good For The Company?

The Bob's Think That You Aren't Challenging Your Self Enough, Games Industry.

In an age where having an individual product isn’t enough, where building a brand through viral marketing via ‘synergized releases’ -- its easy to lose sight of what’s important. Did we need the insulting and insensitive advertising campaign circulating the release of Dante’s Inferno? When you ate Dominio’s pizza in the 90’s where you thinking, “You know, if I could avoid the Noid and eat pizza, life would be so close to completion.” Maybe the Doom movie should have been released straight to DVD, seeing as theater goers typically do not support video game movies starring men [Angelina Jolie & Milla Jovovich]. The point is, we have come far from the days of Ducktales and Aladdin. We exist in a time where seeing a broken cd on the sidewalk is common. Furthermore, seeing brands stretched and skewed to make a buck -- makes what you liked about said brand much more disposable.

E3 2010: What Was Missing?

Because Re-Imagined, Motion Controlled 3D Games Are The New FPS

Pre-E3 I had issues with how the show 'could' go. During E3 I tried my best to put up as much video I could find with my patented commentary -- which I'm sure you all loved. Now I'm stuck at a crossroads. I sit here elated and disgusted. Disgusted with myself for allowing my favorite hobby turn me into a kind of gaming cynic. There was nothing in the Sony and Microsoft press conferences for me. I'd even venture, had it not been for the 3DS, there would have been nothing for me in the Nintendo press conference even with the announcements of old titles being made anew.

E3 2010: Clipstravaganza! [Updated 6-17-10]

Now I know I had some pretty harsh words for E3. I mean it was just hours ago I went on a rant for the ages that has almost completely temporarily ostracized me from the rest of me E3 supporting nerds out there. But in keeping with last years theme, I stay vigilante and dedicated to making an entirely too long brog posting about the video released from this overly bloated expo.

Sidenote: Now that I think about it, I'm thinking about writing a 'low lights' of E3 posting in the future. And trust me...Ubisoft is taking up a lot of that.

I digress. Let's get to these fancy clips. I'll keep updating the post as soon as I get my hands on some uploaded video. Up first...Star Wars: The Old Republic...again.

[Update: Here Are The Press Conferences In Their Entirety -- Nintendo (part 2), Sony, MicrosoftEA, Ubisoft , Konami]

Thanks to 1up, Machinima, IGN, Ustream and Youtube for the video!

E3 2010: Shouldn't I Be More Excited?

Let Me Get This Straight. As A Form Of Exemplary Entertainment We're Going To Showcase The Power Of Our Mighty Gaming Culture, By Showcasing The Physical Accomplishments Of The Cirque? Failing To See A Connection

To start, I should acknowledge that my lack of enthusiasm for this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo ... expo, is a notion that has been long felt by veteran goers. So please excuse me if I am both late to the party and if these sobering words pelt your wall of hype for an event I have never attended and, at this point, never hope to attend.

Nier: Justin McElroy Dies For Our Sins

Unfortunately for Mr. McElroy of Joystiq.com fame, I have moved Nier up into Gamefly queue. Why? Well it has been a whole month since I've played White Knight Chronicles so I am tempted to see will there be another game that surpasses that bland and boring piece of work. But this, I mean, wow. Fish catching.

People learn from Justin's and my [eventual] mistake. Don't let his pain and torture be in vain.

What I Learned From Play Magazine

Play Magazine's Final Issue

Prior to the collapse of both Play and Geek Magazine I sent Dave Halverson a couple of interview requests that I guess fell on deaf ears. After reading the forums and Frank Anderson's interview about Play's demise I began to reflect on what could be learned from the events that lead to -- what some think -- was inevitable. It's obvious to see that the world of print media needs a consistent audience, but Play's misfortune has shown what makes the game journalism audience so incredible and detestable.
