Commercial Break: Elephants, They Be Painting

Glorious. Magnificent. And possibly a result of some good ole fashioned animal torture in order to produce an anomaly in the world of animal sociology. Geez, that wasn't called for at all was it? This is kind of my double-edged sword for posting this.

Its easy to be a pessimist isn't it? Even something as odd and kinda cool as an elephant touching up a painting [one can only assume] he/she had been working on, could be the result of something negative. At the same time, its also double-delusional to think this creative little pachyderm dropped out of the womb with a the itch to get his Bob Ross on.

I'd prefer to think positive in spite of my cynical brain's negative leanings.

Bboy Discussion: R-16 As An Idea

I found myself lurking the Bboyworld forums [which is usually never a good sign that your day is going in the right direction] and I came across a fairly interesting discussion involving this Korean hosted event called R-16. Its an event that is fairly reminiscent of the Olympics and/or the World Cup.

Funk Music Documentary: Baby Charles, Sharon Jones...err & Grace Jones?

Thanks to the NRK for broadcasting this super-interesting documentary on funk music. Non-Norwegian don't fret, the majority of the documentary is in English. I love Nicole Willis and The Soul Searchers and I never knew Sharon Jones played the piano until now. Enjoy and spread the word.

My Life As A North Campus Video Employee

I Worked In The Front Room Area. The Shelves Were Well Stocked This Day. That Doorway You See Would Eventually Become The Owner's Office. Because They Had To Close and Sell Stores To Make Rent.

For the past three years I've worked at Columbus, Ohio's North Campus Video -- I've been documenting on a semi-weekly basis my experiences at the 31-year old mom and pop business. What you should know is this is a completely biased account of how one particular ex-employee saw in the underbelly of a Columbus landmark. Unfortunately, the manner in which I was laid off has actually stayed my blade [for the time being]. My original account of my tenure was going to be poisoned-tipped and rage-filled, but in the interest in the off chance of me getting the little details wrong -- I'll leave names out.

A Wilco Show Review From A Guy Who Know's D*@k About Wilco

It probably goes without saying that I have never claimed to be a fan of Wilco. The day of their show at the Mershon Center, myself and my resident 'old school' Wilco-fan of a girlfriend, collectively forgot about the show. Guess it just goes to show you how much of a 'blip' on the radar a live Wilco show makes in our world.  With all this being said, this is where I say, "Wilco is one of the worst bands I have ever heard" or "How can anyone listen to this kind of crap?!" Although I am not a fan of 'this type' of music, I was intrigued for many reasons to go to a Wilco show. What kind of people go? What do people do at a Wilco show? What is the proper form of dress? Mind you, my only knowledge of shows of this caliber are of the funk and hiphop variety. Sure I have ventured to the occasional metal show, but nothing of this size and sophistication.
