Commericial Break: Bears Playing Hockey

The Russians have done it! They have achieved the goal so many Canadians have died attempting. Bears can rip the average person's limbs apart within two minutes. Okay, that's a made up statistic, but I dare you to try and disprove it. I am vehemently opposed to the mistreatment of animals, unless they are delicious -- then exceptions need to be made. But if your day wasn't going the way you thought it would, or you're not sure what your ultimate life goal is; imagine being an incredibly nervous Russian referee surrounded by bears on ice skates carrying hockey sticks.

I hope I made you feel better.

Where Do You See Gaming Going? The Indie Scene

I'm Sure They're Very Nice People

The fourth installment of my ongoing analysis on the many directions the video game culture is/could be headed. The above picture has nothing to do with gaming at all.

Can Quality Titles Survive On The Wii? Quality Mature Titles?

It's really easy to say M-Rated games [as a whole] do not fair well on this gaming generation's top selling console, the Nintendo Wii. The Wii has been the proverbial kryptonite for a lot of developers and publishers who refused to put an Italian plumber in their game. How long can devs put up with the 'low risk, high reward' design before the already fully stocked game shelves boot them to the bargain bin? In the history of sales for the Wii, Sega has produced seven titles in the top 100. Five of said titles feature a very tired Sonic the Hedgehog. The odd two who managed to rock the Wii charts -- Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz and the House of the Dead 2 and 3 Return [which were repackaged remakes with new Wii controls].

Before you skewer me with your e-pitchforks, I do acknowledge that games are more than just sales numbers. This is not a sales rap. I am not here to develop marketing strategies for Sega on why titles like Madworld and The Conduit should perform better. I want to talk about why these games don't perform sales-wise as well as garner critical acclaim. I want to talk about what can make mature rated games on Nintendo consoles [yes I am including you DS] welcomed for mature adults as well as the children they may be the parents of.

Turn It Loose Trailer

A handful of the people reading this page know I am a huge fan and enthusiast of the hiphop culture. Even as of this day I am a practicing bboy. But it doesn't matter how large or small of a jam I have been to, I am always amazed at how large this culture has gotten. I see fashion and slang influenced by the style or the music, but I never would have thought for one minute documentaries would be made with bboying/bgirling as the focal point. I hope Turn It Loose is as good as this trailer touts it to be. If it is the event I think it is, then...well, I have feelings on Red Bull BC One, I am hoping the South African culture and worldwide influence gets pushed to the forefront.

Bad News: The ACTA Treaty Hates You

We can't take our government anywhere 'nowadays'. About a week ago, in Seoul Korea, the U.S. Government decided to sign an ACTA [Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement]treaty with several powerful nations [South Korea and Canada notably]. This treaty encapsulated a fair amount of free-trade of intellectual agreements and most importantly, an Internet Chapter. Fellow nerds, we've done it. We have the government making chapters and policy outlines specifically to protect our best interest, via the internet. Unfortunately, there appears to be a reason why this treaty was signed in a great deal of secrecy. Below are the issues at hand.

PWND: Wall Street Gets The Vaccine Before You Do

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

Oh word? I mean, I guess if it weren't for these guys we wouldn't be able to...well...hmm. I'm not quite sure what were to happen if everybody on Wall Street got sick and specifically the swine flu. Maybe we would lose our way in the world and start eating our own poop [I mean, once we've kept the demons away by flinging our poop surplus]. I could never get a vaccine. I mean...I really couldn't, this has nothing to do with my morals to getting vaccinations, but if you were to include that I would still be hacking up a lung for the sake of someone who may be worse off than I am.

Not Wall Street though. These guys are white collar gangsta. It just goes to show you ... you can't spell Swine Flu without WIN. And Wall Street got this round.

Seasons Beating IV: Daigo vs Justin - The Aftermath

This event was something no thread or internet streaming video could truly capture.  Even I could not capture the entire run of every tournament, but when I was at Seasons Beatings IV; I took in as much information as possible.  There were games, that up until now, I had not seen high-level play and when I did catch the classic Sanford Kelly versus Justin Wong matches; these matches went beyond my expectations. This was a wake up call. A huge wake up call to the fighting community as a whole. Street Fighter IV has indeed arrived and is a game with comparable depth to it's predecessors. There was/is resistance when talking to veteran players about Street Fighter IV [even I was and still am a naysayer], but after this tourney and this year's EVO; Street Fighter has earned its spot as one of the premiere, high-level tournament fighting games.

While I was there I took some photos, not my best day, but I tried to capture the essence.

Below Is video of the Street Fighter IV: Grand Final. Justin Wong vs. Umehara Daigo.  The Final Set [Daigo won the first]

Fat Vs. Photoshop [w/ Sarah Haskins]

Visit msnbc.com for Breaking News, World News, and News about the Economy

My personal hero, Sarah Haskins appeared on Rachel Maddow's show today discussing a topic that effects us all...Big-Headism. We've all seen these types of women walking down the street, one hundred pounds and six-foot thirty. But the typically have gigantic heads. I worry for their turtlenecks and winter hats.

Oh wait...these types of women don't exist in real life?

Damn you photoshop and mass male-centric marketing!
