Devil May Cry [PS2]: It Doesn't Get More Emo Than This

That's A Snazzy Trench Coat You Got There

I finally did it guys! I beat Devil May Cry 1 for the PS2! On my PS3! Aren't you excited for me?  Look, I know its been a while since I've updated my PS2 quest log, but I've really been working hard over here.  Making photos...I even buckled down and purchased a PS3.  So with the long wait finally over, here it is...here is how I feel about one of the longest running action games for Capcom.  I'll spoil the ending of this review...I kinda hated Devil May Cry.  I hated it a lot.

The Left 4 Dead 2 Conundrum

Only on the internet are you going to get such a passionate furor over a game that has yet to be released. One of the bigger surprises at this year's E3 event was that Valve's new born baby [as of last year November], Left 4 Dead, would be getting a sequel by November this year. Battle lines have be drawn. Pitchforks are sharpened and raised. Go on over to the Steam forums and take a good look at what the mere announcing of a sequel can cause fans [on both sides] to take some pretty bold stances. On one end there are dedicated fans who have one 100% faith that if and when Left 4 Dead 2 comes out, it will be a quality product. On the other end of the spectrum, there are gamers who demand that Left 4 Dead continue to be fully supported and that the sequel be postponed until a later date or otherwise released for free or as an add-on or a paid expansion pack.

Twitter Didn't Kill E3...You Did.

Last week, I never heard so many journalist complain about one thing...in unison.  "If it weren't for Twitter, E3 would have had a much bigger impact on me." The reality is, because of the internet as a whole, leaks and breaking news have been scooping our witty, games enthusiast scoopers.  It is great to see the spectacle that is E3 return, but in all honesty, in this age of 'nowism' [wanting to know everything instantly even at the cost of accuracy] how can a microblogging site like Twitter be the fault of the leaks which were going to leak baring the sites existence?

I Love You Man...Well...Kinda

A Lesson In How To Uncomfortably Say Goodbye

I figured during these summer blockbusters, with robots falling out of the sky and man travelling back in time and exploding space demons with lasers, some may want to be in a theater that is not stuffed to the gills with people craving to be in-the-know with the most recent movie of the week.  Well, there is another movie of the week out there for you if you are willing to open your mind to the intricacies of 'same-sex hetero-dating'.

The Star Trek Is Just A Good Movie

The Chekov Comparison Is HilariousSo let me get this straight, in this parallel universe, Kirk never met his father and Spock's mom is fairly hot? Scotty has his own 'Jar-Jar', but an actually funny Jar-Jar?  And Eric Bana has tatooes on his face as a result of waring in space for 25 years? Well Mr. J. J. Abrams, you certainly have your work cut out for you in the eyes of this viewer.  As an aside, this is coming from a viewer who was not 'that big' into the original Star Trek series [grandparents made me watch every episode], but may have seen 80...err...maybe 90 percent of the movies.  Much like the rest of my generation, I was a bigger fan of well...The Next Generation.  What is truly unfortunate about this Star Trek is that for every 9 things it gets right, there is usually a glaring 'one-thing' lurking around the corner of its very convoluted science fiction plot. This makes this movie a great Star Trek movie, but only a good movie as a whole.

PS3 Yellow Lights Of Death: "Something To Keep An Eye On"

In this hustle and bustle age of worky work...I like to relax. Several forms of entertainment, from poker on riverboats, the occasional shootout at various Western re-inactment locales, but when asked; I relax with the occasional video game.

Seeing as I am a new owner of the PS3 [60 gig - back compat model] thanks to the mighty ebay, I still cannot help to be skeptical. I have had a Dell for about four or five years without any motherboard malfunctions...and even with the occasional harddrive crapping out...never had the need to replace my entire computer. How is it possible, that the more sophisiticated our hardware becomes, the higher chance of hardware failure occurs?

After the jump, I'll link a story to an unfortunate Playstation 3 user, Guesty 81, who had his PS3 die on him by simply updating his machine.  What an age we live in indeed.

Sign Of The Times: Game Journalism Isn't

As of late there have been a fair amount of debates in the gaming community as to what game journalism is today.  If this little shpeil I have on the topic serves anything, it is to commend the community for the obvious growth in order for such a discussion to even take place.

Sunshine Cleaning: A Good Movie

After checking this weekend's box office, it is safe to say that three movies are complete financial bombs: Adventureland, Observe & Report and the cream of the crop; Sunshine Cleaning. What do these movies have in common? All three films, at a glance, appear incredibly similar to previous hits. Adventureland and Observe & Report are to Superbad and Paul Blart where Sunshine Cleaning is to Little Miss Sunshine. However, Sunshine Cleaning has managed to melt my blackened heart when it comes to 'dark comedies' or 'light dramas'. There are a couple illogical moments that will have you scratching your head, but the performances from each cast member is what makes this movie worth the traveling to the theater.

Fast & Furious: Now With 10% More Lame

What you need to know from the get-go with "Fast & Furious" or "The Fast and the Furious 4", is that this is not the campy, street racing movie you may have been hoping for from the original movie. This 'street racing' movie has only one race, that just happens to be on the street! How do you make a movie who's bread-and-butter for its core audience is essentially transformed into off-road racing in Mexico? The stunts, when they are not overly CGI-ed are executed well. Unfortunately, the movie is rife with CGI show pieces and cultural stereotypes, which will take the viewer out of any modicum of entertainment you could garner from an extended Reggaeton music video.

The DLC Debate: "What Is Fair?"

What a crazy age we live in.We live in the age of Twitter and instant updates. Instant gratification is in and of course technology will be the first to harness and cultivate our needs. Though video games may not fall in the category of 'necessity', try convincing gaming companies to the contrary. I am sure avid WoW players and Pockemon collectors also have problems resisting new content as well. Downloadable content is here fellow gamers. As much as it proposes the argument of how strong a foothold games have on our society, it may prove just how far game developers and distributors are willing to go to juice the naive. What is fair?
