Does Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Require "High Level" Skill?

Above is a video recorded by Bullet Proof, of Neo Empire, after Zade (Zoro) won Ultimate Clash 6's Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament. Add this to the collection of 'fire-side chats' I've been collecting, in regards to the year's biggest fighting game release.

What I find most interesting in the video above is that Zade proclaims that he, "Isn't a Marvel player." Even though he just won a tournament, competing against some pretty high-level talent. I'm wondering how popular this notion, or this situation could be in the future of the Marvel series? If new players of the series begin to consistently win, will this cheapen the credibility of the game?

After watching several streams of popular U.S. events [Final Round, Winter Brawl, Wednesday Night Fights] I'm slightly confused with the stance of Dieminion and Zade. Top players will ultimately perform better than the average scrub. To a certain degree I'd like to assume this is belly aching.

The game hasn't been out for that long and people are still discovering things they like, but also things that they don't. The damage is high. The combos are fairly simple by comparison to most fighting games played at tournaments. X-factor, Sentinel, Phoenix and Wolverine are all characters that seem to keep coming up in these debates.

Maybe this could be a good thing for the community? Each tournament I've watched has had new faces and young players enter, but contrary to what Dieminion and Zade are saying, the veterans and familiar faces of fighting games typically advance farther. Is there a need to fix the damage and the [seemingly] over powered characters or will player-execution play a more vital role in future tournaments?

Things that make ya go, Hmm.

Commercial Break: Sanford Kelly & Yipes On Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

Updated on Thursday, February 17, 2011 at 9:38PM by Registered CommenterIsaiah T. Taylor

Earlier tonight I posted a blog on 1up about the legendary [IFC] Yipes views, thus far, on Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Well, I'll be posting that video below and let you guys absorb all the info and formulate your own opinions about where you think the fighting game scene is going and on a smaller scale how you think this game is going to mature in the fighting game community.

Aside: Sorry for all the video as of late. I've been really busy, actually working on art and stuff for the site. [Damn, actually feels good to say that.] It also doesn't help that I'm a huge fighting game fan and am enjoying my own personal Christmas ... what with all the fighting games being released in this generation.

Video: Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition Video Surfaces

Much props to iPlaywinner & Esaka's Diary. This video is of course, straight from Japan, but if you use Google Chrome's translator [or Mozilla's Translator plug-in] that should give you some perspective as to some of the damage being doled out by each combo [in regards to Esaka's page]. Sorry, I had to post this, very rare I get a 20 minute video of ANY fighting game showing moderate-to-high level play with this many different characters.

Fighting games are back! Or are they? Moreover, should I be nervous that less-than-stellar clones are not to far behind?

    Season's Beatings Redemption: The Aftermath

Momochi & ChocoBlanka Say, "Hai" From Season's Beatings Redemption.
Before I give my take and list the results I have to get the thank you's in. I don't know how EVO or SBO works, but I have been to every Season's Beatings here in Columbus, Ohio and seeing the hardwork that Fugee and Ghaleon [Godlike Entertainment] put in beyond impressive. Huge thanks to Team Spooky for keeping up a quality stream. I thought I saw him grow six extra arms. Seeing the man edit and switch angles on the fly all while responding to the chat on the stream was dizzying. Props to the sponsors, MadCatz and Hori. The commentators: Skisonic, NerdJosh, James Chen and Chris Hu with a special rotating guest list.

Super Street Fighter IV Review -- History Repeating?

Super Street Fighter IV has ushered in a new community of fighting game fans and continues to cater to us old schoolers. So why do I get the sneaking suspicion that we could be on the cusp of yet another fighting game flood?
Within the week of me writing this I’ve had the pleasure of: purchasing my first arcade joystick, arranging plans with friends to attend a fighting game tournament and review a long-time competitor in Tekken 6. Needless to say, I’m suffering from a frame counting overload. Imagine my surprise when I opened up a little envelop in my mailbox and out popped a shiny new copy of Super Street Fighter IV. Looking at my stack of growing games I rarely play, I noticed a dusty copy of the original Street Fighter IV which was released a year prior. My joy slowly waned as I questioned whether Capcom was repeating history and gouging its fans by flooding the fighting game market with sequels and spin-offs.

    Season's Beatings: Redemption, Oct. 15th - 18th

Its that time of year again. I’m sure anyone reading this is well prepared for the Midwest’s premiere fighting game tournament, but in case you are a new comer I would suggest venturing over to the Shoryuken boards and introducing yourself to some of the best and brightest minds when it comes to this amazing tournament. Now because of last year’s incredible turnout there I would suggest getting your money and skills in order. There will be a $30 dollar flat rate to enter the venue, so why not save up a couple extra shillings and enter a tournament or two.

As per the usual, I will be there with my camera documenting the event -- heck, I may even try my hand at a tourney or two. Rest assured, this is a tournament you do not want to miss. Daigo, Gamerbee, Choco and Momochi have already confirmed to be in attendance and if that doesn’t get you hype, then you may want to reconsider calling yourself a fighting game fan.

Stay tuned for further updates on SBV: Redemption.

After the jump are the details and official press release about the event thus far.

Resident Evil Afterlife: Review -- "Fans Of The Genre..."

Even Milla's beautiful skin and limitless ammo could not save us from such a debacle of a film.

Striking cinematography, broad characters, Matrix-esque fight scenes supplied by a soundtrack weirder than a giant man carrying an ax-mallet, this is what the Resident Evil film franchise has been reduced to. I struggled with this review. Usually watching a movie I know in my heart and colon to be, at best, a junk food movie and at worst, cataract inducing -- its pretty cut and dry. The new Resident Evil movie hurts more than it helps videogame-to-movie adaptation gain some form of credulity. I avoid certain phrases in a lot in my game reviews and one of the contributing factors as to why scribbling these words [via keyboard] was more vexing was because I wanted to avoid the term, “Fans of the genre.”
