Seasons Beatings 4: New Crack City - Daigo vs Justin, Oct. 16th - 18th

This weekend the fourth installment of the annual Season's Beatings, one of the largest fighting game tournaments in the U.S. takes place in my lovely city, Columbus, OH.  Hosted by Fugee La & Ghaleon, Season's Beatings is sure to make some worldwide noise in the fighting game community.  If you have not seen the 50-page thread dedicated to the event on Shoryuken.com, you should know you have until Tuesday to register and pay. Go to the Season's Beating IV website to register, pay and while you're there grab a shirt.

Headlining the event will be longtime rivals Daigo Umehara and Justin Wong who you may remember from a certain epic match years ago. They have had only a few encounters in tournaments since that match in other tournaments.  This will be the first time they will be put on center stage in a best of 10 in a little game called Street Fighter IV.

I'll be covering the latter half of the event on Saturday and Sunday, so be ready to be photographed [also you can NOT be photographed, just tell me...I'm not a jerk...well at least about this].  Here is a look at last year's photos. Keep an eye on the this site and Shoryuken for the photos and tournament results. If you are one of the fortunate many who are coming to Columbus for the event, have fun and I'll see you there!

The Non-White Gamer's Experience By Owen Good

Hey guys, since you're in the neighborhood, venture over to Kotaku and check out Owen Good's article. It made me terribly jealous and envious that I didn't think of writing something like this, but Owen definitely did a better job of framing a black/hispanic/asian etc. person's experience.  Definitely worth a read and more than worth discussing.

Owen's Article [via Kotaku]

Supplementary: Simply because it applies. This isn't to trudge up the whole Resident Evil 5 thing.

Penn & Teller "Bullshit": Video Games

Falling in line with all things tech culture related on the brog, Penn & Teller have constructed quite the piece debating the factual evidence surrounding violent video games and their effects on this generations moldible minds.  As in any episode you would find of Penn & Teller, be prepared for tons of profanity [awesome] and loons [on both sides of the fence] as well as some solid points made on behalf of the games industry.  Do violent video games make for an aggressive person or personality? Is it training our children to be zombie-like killers?

The E3 Trailer Brog. [Updated 6-5!]

With compliments from Joystiq.com and my non-willingness to get 8 hours of sleep.  I've made a brog dedicated to the trailers and videos released from the major companies at E3.  As of right now I have: Microsoft, EA, and Ubisoft's releases below.  Later on tonight I'll be updating this brog with Sony and Nintendo's extravaganza of wankerdom.  Sorry, I'm kinda sullied on going to E3 now.  So glad to watch the live stream. It just seems like one of the worst kind of marketing cavalcades anyone could attend.  Example: Did you see the Ubisoft press conference? No human should have to endure that for a two minute game trailer sequel.

I've sectioned off the Weird Stuff, The Multiplatform titles and The Exclusives.  Let's start this off with what I think the biggest trailer of E3 2009...

***Update [6-3-09]: Well folks that should just about do it! I updated all the video I could find [from Joystiq] and all of the major announcements, barring a couple handheld gems, should be below!***

[more after the jump]

Star Wars: Old Republic [PC?/360?/PS3?]. I said it once I'll say it again...I'm not into MMO's, but this trailer is pure crack. I didn't see which consoles SW:OR is being developed, but one can only assume it is coming out for PC. It would be interesting to see a big branded MMO go to console.  Let's see how this one pans out...

Sign Of The Times: Game Journalism Isn't

As of late there have been a fair amount of debates in the gaming community as to what game journalism is today.  If this little shpeil I have on the topic serves anything, it is to commend the community for the obvious growth in order for such a discussion to even take place.

The DLC Debate: "What Is Fair?"

What a crazy age we live in.We live in the age of Twitter and instant updates. Instant gratification is in and of course technology will be the first to harness and cultivate our needs. Though video games may not fall in the category of 'necessity', try convincing gaming companies to the contrary. I am sure avid WoW players and Pockemon collectors also have problems resisting new content as well. Downloadable content is here fellow gamers. As much as it proposes the argument of how strong a foothold games have on our society, it may prove just how far game developers and distributors are willing to go to juice the naive. What is fair?

The second article is a rant about users ranting about reviews. Some would say it is a review of a review.
