The Game Review That Set The World On Fire: Killzone 2 Review Review

So Ben Dutka of Playstation Xtreme had a major bone to pick with the '7' out of 10 Killzone 2 got over at Edge magazine. Turns out 8 people read both the Edge review and slightly more read his review of the review. [Cue Xzibit] "Yo dawg...I heard you like over-hyped reviews so I put a review in yo review. So you can bitch while you bitch."

Thank you X-to-the-Z.

Video: Mega64 EGM Metaphors

Sorry, I know its late and this video has been circulating the net for a while, but I had to post it.  It's been taking me a while to do consistent updates, but work and play has been crazy right now.  The brog will get fed...in small doses, but powerful chunks.

Women In Gaming: Jenn Tsao Leaves 1up.com joins Sega

I Tried To Post One With Her Son, But Flickr Didn't Let Me...

If you have been reading the message boards of 1up.com and NeoGAF then you wouldn't know how valuable a figure Jennifer Tsao really was at 1up.com. From the responses I've been seeing [in regards to the negative] most people merely saw her as a casual gaming mom who may not have had the background to be reviewing hardcore games. Nothing could be further from the truth. The truth is Tsao was a huge MMO/RPG nerd who did and still does host LAN parties. What's more important, is that when I was reading EGM & 1up in 2002-03 she was able to question the gaming industry as far as: how women are portrayed, how to include those that may be intimidated by the culture as well as how to have a hardcore gamer play something [good] that isn't a part of the norm.

Jenn's last day was Oct. 31st and she bid everyone a fond farewell on a podcast she helped build and develop. She's leaving game journalism and heading over to the production side, where she will be working at Sega as Associate Creative Director for Family/Casual games. If you've been following Jenn's work for the past six years at 1up, then you know this is kind of a no-brainer opportunity. Just can't help but think how big of a loss this is for 1up.com what with the most recent departures of Jeff and Shawn.

Shawn Elliot Leaves 1up and Joins 2K Boston

Shawn takes a bow...errr...not really.

Yup...this pretty much sums up my week.  Sunday I had a tiff with my girlfriend...the same day Hurricane Ike's evil winds were over Columbus. This resulted in over a third of Ohioans being out of power [and in most cases, work]. Most of the AEP workers [from the midwest] were sent to Texas to remedy their power outtage. Unfortunately, the lovely higher-ups at AEP didn't really count on Ike's 70+ mile per hour winds to; as I like to say, "Eff-Up" Ohio and most of the midwest electrical power gird. They say it will be until Saturday or Sunday until all of Ohio is 'fully-operational', which if you've been to the main cities in Ohio...you know how funny that is.

Days later, I find out I'm going to be losing a lot of money in the next couple months thanks to my passion...that is...throwing money away into the lovely art of photography. That very day I worked 12 hours only to come home to no gas.  My internet was turned off by the lovely Time Warner people because they wanted the electricians to be as safe as possible with each residence.

All I wanted to do was listen to my favorite podcast.

Video Game Reviews - Soulja Boy Tells Them?

Here we have Soulja Boy explaining what could only be loosely described as a video game review.  As a preface, I know Soulja Boy is still a teenager and has a lot of money and is an avid gamer...I know these things, but do you have to record yourself every time you feel your brain has 'yet again' spun pure gold?

This is what blogs are for people.

The "Exclusive Review" Is Dead - The State Of Games Journalism

Cue Blood Curdling Scream

View the many pages of this brog you could probably tell that I'm a huge fan of games journalism [nerd alert!]. So it pains me to type the all out disgust I've seen my favorite game media outlets go through and in some cases 'play ball' with these now million dollar companies. What is truly unfortunate is knowing that it is a necessary evil. It isn't often you pick up a magazine and see ads for "Preparation H" or go to a gaming site and see an ad for something non-gaming related. This isn't to say that it isn't true. I can remember tons of times going to 1up and seeing an anti-smoking ad or picking up a Game Informer and seeing a National Guard ad for recruiting. Majorly what we see in regards to game journalism media are ads for many of the games that they themselves cover and review. It is bound to have a conflict of interest right?

Game Journalism - Jeff Green of 1up leaves for EA

Jeff & Sponge Bob. So Much Star Power

One of the reasons I started reading 1up and listening to games podcasts was because of the man...the myth...the Jeff Green. As a fan of games and; almost equally games journalism, one of the first articles I read was of a Diablo clone back in the 90's that Jeff Green wrote for the now defunct CGW [Computer Gaming World]. It is actually kind of good to see that he's going on to what I would call 'the even more BIG TIME' with working on the Sims with Electronic Arts.

The GFW podcast will not be the same with ya Jeffy G.

Currently Playing: Beyond Good & Evil PS2

This Is A Slide From The 'Current Gen' BGE...I'm Psyched!

Seeing as I just purchased a PS2 last year I'm throughly playing through all the games I missed.  At times its a chore [especially with Deus Ex], but with this game I have to say its been such a breeze.  After I get off of work I pop in the disc do a mission or two, or sometimes I'll race or play a quick sidequest.  I'm about halfway through and I really don't want it to end. Considering I've been very busy with my various jobs it has taken me about a month to make it this far. And I wouldn't have it any other way.

After the jump yet another cosplayer...
