E3 2011: Prepping For Uncomfortable Silence & Unintentional Comedy

It still echoes in my head, "one million trooooops," then almost an audible insert of prairie crickets. Tak Fujii is well known and respected in the Japanese gaming community. As some of you know, E3 Conferences are usually an opportunity for games, from all walks of the culture, to make their big impressions. It's always cringe-worthy when that impression is negative.

In two weeks E3 2011 will commence and you can bet I'll be uploading and posting as much as I can during that weekend. One can only hope that this year's press conferences [pressers] surpass those of last year's. If not for quality, let's hope the oddball antics this year are fully-stocked with comedy. It was clear that Konami chose a different approach. Some would say, a more hilarious approach. I would be one of those people.

Below is a compilation of all things I love about corporate business-speak and PR spin in the gaming industry. Here's hoping 2011 doesn't disappoint.

Sony's Press Conference Live-Tweeted & "Interpreted"

A Taste Of Professionalism

For full coverage go here

Proof-positive that Isaiah and a bottle of wine, plus a 1-to-3 A.M. press conference is a recipe for *disaster. Be on the look out for future live tweet of events [I've got E3 in my cross hairs]. I seem to like doing them and people seem to love expressing a certain level of disgust at my un-professionalism.

So I must be on to something, right?

*or awesome, depending on your sense of humor.

Personal Note: It's Been That Kind Of Week

video via rickymachinima

I try and keep the Brog PG-13, but sometimes a healthy f**k is good to squeeze out of the body every now and again. Don't worry, it won't become commonplace, but boy has the gaming world shown it's ugly side this week [again]. I probably haven't contributed to the healing process [pay no attention to my twitter feed]. I'd like to think at least writing this stuff down is a good piece of therapy. It's just unfortunate that when I do bitch about the pitfalls of this culture I'm met with "you know this is par for the course, right?"

Sidenote: Mega64 Is Still The S**t

I don't know what magic Rocco and the gang have been able to cultivate, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was surprised they are still around. Above is a video they just uploaded on their Youtube channel showing a 'smidgeon' [I'm sure that's how you spell that made up word] of the work that goes into their quality episodes.

It also reminds me of the fun that goes into doing something you really care about. Which is why I'm posting this, because I care -- about you...intimately.

Whoa, that was weird, right? Anywhoo, if you're not familiar with Mega64 get yourself all caught up with their comedy at their personal internet website [people still say it like that?]. They recently got a new deal with GameTrailers and a lot of their old stuff with IGN is [also] available on youtube.

Sorry, I can't stop being a fanboy for them. Their voice is so unique and really necessary [I feel] in this culture of incredibly unfunny box quotes and press releases. Cheers.

Does Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Require "High Level" Skill?

Above is a video recorded by Bullet Proof, of Neo Empire, after Zade (Zoro) won Ultimate Clash 6's Marvel vs. Capcom 3 tournament. Add this to the collection of 'fire-side chats' I've been collecting, in regards to the year's biggest fighting game release.

What I find most interesting in the video above is that Zade proclaims that he, "Isn't a Marvel player." Even though he just won a tournament, competing against some pretty high-level talent. I'm wondering how popular this notion, or this situation could be in the future of the Marvel series? If new players of the series begin to consistently win, will this cheapen the credibility of the game?

After watching several streams of popular U.S. events [Final Round, Winter Brawl, Wednesday Night Fights] I'm slightly confused with the stance of Dieminion and Zade. Top players will ultimately perform better than the average scrub. To a certain degree I'd like to assume this is belly aching.

The game hasn't been out for that long and people are still discovering things they like, but also things that they don't. The damage is high. The combos are fairly simple by comparison to most fighting games played at tournaments. X-factor, Sentinel, Phoenix and Wolverine are all characters that seem to keep coming up in these debates.

Maybe this could be a good thing for the community? Each tournament I've watched has had new faces and young players enter, but contrary to what Dieminion and Zade are saying, the veterans and familiar faces of fighting games typically advance farther. Is there a need to fix the damage and the [seemingly] over powered characters or will player-execution play a more vital role in future tournaments?

Things that make ya go, Hmm.

Killzone 2 Review -- High Definition Awful

With an immense amount of talent and money, Killzone 2 serves as a good example why superficial measures will always supercede any form of depth in a first-person shooter.
